The flames, intensified by hurricane winds from Hurricane Dora, consumed much of the town's historic district, dating back to the 1700s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At least six people tragically lost their lives in the midst of the chaos, and dozens were injured as they attempted to flee the rapidly advancing blaze.

The fire's rapid spread left behind a landscape of devastation. Lahaina's picturesque Front Street, a popular tourist destination for shopping and dining, was reduced to rubble. The island organized a mass bus evacuation to transport people directly to the airport, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
